Historically praised as the noble grape throughout the Austrian Empire, Pinela is native to the Vipava Valley. The variety thrives along the western Vipava hills, where it is planted on steep hillside terraces assuring plenty of access to wind and sunshine. We like to think this wine is somewhere between a new world Chardonnay (without the buttery notes), and a NZ Sauvignon Blanc (fresh, green, acidity).
Grown from two vineyard blocks on soils with flysch and heavy clay, the vines were picked at full maturity and in low yields. Vinification was carried out spontaneously via pied-de-cuve, with maturation done exclusively in steel. The wine was aged on fine lees with a small percent of intact berries for 6 months, plus an additional 4 months in steel. Roughly filtered prior to bottling. This wine will leave you feeling warm and toasty, pairs best with hearty fare. Certified organic.
